Hello everyone, I was thinking about making a Dark Academia fashin post, but then I realized that I should start with the basics. So here are my favourite Dark Academia fabrics for skirts, dresses, pants and whatnot more, for every season.

Plaid:

Plaid is maybe the Dark Academia fabric. I love them in dark colours for the winter and in muted but light tones for the summer.

Plaid is cute in skirts, shirts, trousers and dresses, so basically in everything! Because it is such a versatile type of fabric, you can have multiple plaid items in your closet!

Corduroy:

I have a pair of amazing corduroy trousers that I love. They are flared and fit oh-so-comfortably. For corduroy, I like colours like burgundy, dark green and shades of brown. I personally think it’s a shame to wear black corduroy because the fabric’s texture is less clear then. You can also wear corduroy skirts in these colours, but for me, a corduroy dress or top would be a little bit too much.

Linen:

In the summer linen pants are fabulous and still comfortable since the fabric breathes well. I have recently bought a linen top and also have a linen skirt with a matching blazer and oh boy, do I like to wear them. They are often a little bit pricier, but it usually makes the money worthwhile.

Velvet:

For dresses and skirts, I love a good velvet. Whether it’s in dark green, burgundy, dark blue or black, I adore them. And even trousers can look good in velvet, although I think they should be flared in that case.

Floral patterns:

I like darker floral patterns for Dark Academia since they form a bridge between my two main aesthetics: cottagecore and Dark Academia. They are cute for dresses, blouses, skirts and yet again, flared trousers.

Silk:

Silk is a fantastic fabric for colours like off-white, dark green, dark blue, black and red shades. For a slip dress or a cute pair of pyjamas, I am a big fan of silk. And let’s not forget what a fantastic poet blouse it makes.

Cashmere:

It’s expensive but oh-so-comfortable: cashmere. It looks good in almost any colour and goes with everything. A great investment if you’re looking for a cardigan, jumper, a pair of gloves or a scarf.

And that’s all for today. I hope you enjoyed reading this post! Feel free to post a comment in which you tell me about your favourite fabric.

Love as always,

Frae
